The Room Sushi Review
Normally, I search Los Angeles for authentic sushi, but sometimes, my friend is in the mood for some fancy sushi rolls. Since we’ve pretty much tried all of them, we decided to try a new place called The Room Sushi. I’m not sure the “sushi” is part of the name of the restaurant, or just an added description. It’s a microscopically small place embedded in a tiny strip mall next to Goodwill on Westwood Boulevard.
Although most of the rolls do have something to do with fish, it’s really stretching the definition of sushi to call some of these rolls as sushi rolls.
The Westwood Boulevard Roll (see above) contains no rice with mixed green salad, fresh tuna, salmon, albacore, halibut wrapped with soy paper serve and special sauce is $14.99.
Below is the Room’s Warrior Roll ($13.99) with The Warrior Roll made with shrimp tempura, crab, fresh water eel and avocado outside with sweet eel sauce.
Finally, we ordered their BSC Roll ($12.99) which stands for “Baked Scallops” on top of “California roll.” The Room does also offer regular nigiri sushi but as my friend always used to say, you don’t go to a sushi bar and order steak. In other words, why order nigiri sushi at a sushi roll restaurant, because it’s probably not going to be very good.
For my taste, the rolls were not seasoned properly and were very bland, and worse than that, the rice was mushy and should not have been used, in my opinion. Of course, the green tea was not free but I fully expected that. All in all, even for their specialty rolls, I cannot recommend this place. I won’t be returning here.
