Amazon Restaurants Competes With Postmates
As if Amazon wasn’t already trying to take over the world, now it’s going after the food delivery market that Postmates, Doordash and Grubhub are all competing for. Frankly, I didn’t even know about this Amazon service until they sent me a $12 coupon after I ordered something from my regular Amazon account.
If you know anything about me, you know the thought of “saving” $12 is something I can’t turn down. I immediately decided to try it out. There’s a CPK near me in Westwood so I decided to order some food from there. Interestingly, the CPK in Beverly Hills was the one that sent me the food. Apparently, the CPK in Westwood is not part of Amazon Restaurants.
I’ve pretty much used all the other services with varying results. Frankly, I don’t really like any of them. One thing that I did like with this one is like Uber Eats, you can see where your food is located.
When I saw that it was very close, I went outside to get my food. The map showed that I was across the street from where I was and indeed, the driver was confused and looking for me in an empty parking lot. I waved and him and got my food. Of course, I could have been anybody but I assume people don’t generally steal their food.
Afterwords, I looked in my Amazon account and it does show up in my “Orders” page. That’s convenient if I ever decide to order it again.
Would I have used this service if I didn’t get the $12 coupon? No. Will I use it again? With so many other options, I don’t think so. Also, some of my favorite restaurants have exclusive deals with Postmates, which makes it unlikely that I will go elsewhere. For now.
