VIP Access App For Verisign ID Protection

Last time, I told you I spent $30 on a Paypal Security Key to protect my account. It took me all of 5 minutes of poking around to find out that I didn’t have to buy that physical card from Paypal. VeriSign (now owned by Symantec) has FREE apps for practically all mobile platforms to simulate the physical card.

It upsets me that paypal purposely hides the fact that anybody can download a free app to use the security key instead of paying them $30. Yes, I know they are in business to make money but this just makes them look super greedy.

To get the app, just go to their site at vipmobile.verisign.com/home.v (yes, that’s the page) and you can see all the versions they have. They give you a bunch of different ways to download the apps but you can simply search for “VIP Access” in your respective app store to find it.

The iPad app version is shown below. All you need are the Credential ID to sign up on paypal and some other sites. When you are logging in, you just use the security code shown on the screen. The code changes every 30 seconds, making hacking into your account virtually impossible. I also downloaded the Andriod app and it basically looks identical to the iPhone/iPad version. The only thing about the iPad version is the numbers are so gigantic that it made me paranoid that hackers could see it from across the room at Starbucks.

Too bad more websites don’t use this protection. I would totally use it for anything financial. If you have a Paypal account, this is a complete no-brainer to protect your account. Get it right now.
