Bank of America Updates ATMs With Cardless Access

Bank of America has leap frogged over Chase Bank with their updaded ATMs that allow the consumer to use their smartphone to access their money. Even before Chase had this feature, BofA had what looked like an updated ATM that used smartphones (see below).

Since then, they have upgraded to this new NCR ATM that looks better with a giant color LCD screen (see below). The indoor ATMs at Chase still has a bigger screen but this BofA screen is more than big enough to show ads, as well as process your monetary transactions. You still have to enter your PIN, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing to help keep your money safe.

This is one of the steps needed for me to completely get rid of my credit and debit cards in my wallet. I still have to carry my credit card. But now, I don’t have to carry my debit card just so that I can use the ATM. If all restaurants would allow me to pay with my smartphone, I can finally get rid of my physical plastic.

Updated August 6, 2018:
According to the BofA website, cardless ATMs have been available in some areas since 2016. So apparently, it took 2 years for it to finally come to my branch in Los Angeles.
