“Breathe Right Extra” Defective

For many years, I’ve been using the Breathe Right product to improve my breathing during sleep with great success. It helps me breathe better and get a good nights rest so I am married to this product.

Recently, I’ve gotten a bad batch of them and during the night, the outer layer peels off from the inner sticky layer.  I’ve never had this happen before with this product and I’m hoping they fix the manufacturing process so that I can get a good batch soon.


Unfortunately for me, because I use so much of this product, I buy them in big batches to save money. I’m still on my first box but if the entire batch is defective, I’ve thrown away hundreds of dollars and I don’t think I kept the receipt. I sent Breathe Right an email via their website and got the following email back:

Product quality is very important to us. Could you help us by providing a little more information?

Ideally, we would like to speak to you about your experience and ask that you call one of our Representatives at 1-800-858-6673 weekdays between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm Eastern Time, referring to the case number below.

If you are unable to call us or feel more comfortable replying by email, please reply to this email by providing the following information.

Lot Code (embossed in bottom panel of box):

This additional information is valuable and enables us to continue to monitor and evaluate our products.

Once we hear from you with this additional information, we will be happy to send you an appropriate replacement to a provided address.

We appreciate your bringing this matter to our attention and look forward to hearing from you again soon.

After providing them with the additional information, 5 calendar days later, I got a package in the mail with 3 boxes of 10 packs of Breathe Right and a couple of coupons ($1 and $1.50 off).


Considering how big Breathe Right’s parent company GlaxoSmithKline is, their response was pleasantly timely and responsive. I’m very happy with my treatment.

Is anybody else having this problem with their Breathe Right?


  1. Yes! I also am a long time user of this product and the latest box I purchased from CVS pharmacy in San Diego is doing exactly as you show in your picture. I am on the way to buy some from a different store in the hope that it was a small batch that were faulty. I hope the new box is better as this product normally works so well I don’t sleep well without it.

    • You can go to their website and complain like I did and get some free samples. Since I wrote this post, I have not come across any more bad batches (knock on wood).

  2. I just wrote this review on Amazon, cant find any “Good batches” Same thing happenning to me.

    Product is now defective. Something has changed. “Extra” strips seperate into layers during night and fall apart. Usually takes about 3-4 hours. I bought batch via Amazon ( not Amazons fault) of Lavender Extras and was happening. Then bought some regular tan Extras at Target, same thing, product is now defective. This did not occur in past. Either they changed materials or some other aspect of how they manufacture the strips. Not cool. Really pissedthey messed up this product.

    I have used Breathright strips for over 14 years now, seen the product evolve from original strips to many options over the years. Product has always worked until now. I always have had to be sure wash my nose, for it to stay on. Part of my nightly ritual. I have sleep apnea, and using Breathright along with oral debice is what has allowed me to sleep at night.

    Very dissatisfied, really dissapointed. I will biy them, but they need to work. Many knock offs out there, tried some in past, never worked ad well Breathright.,.,now I am forced to go try them again as Breathrights now being sold are defective. I did search of internet found others with pictures of same issue. This is major problem and could, I hope not, kill tjis brand. GSK what did you do and why have you not fixed it?? I saw your responces to some of the reviews saying same thing, so you know there is an issue..FIX IT!!!’
